From Russia with love...Fashion goes back to the USSR as iconic film Dr Zhivago is inspiration for one of London's hottest trends

Last weekend I popped over to London to visit my sister and while I was there, I indulged in my favourite pastime - people watching. There's some serious style on the streets of the capital and it's a great place to spot the latest, hottest trends .Almost everyone I clapped my beady eye on seemed to be wearing fur, fur and more fur.

Vintage stores (Camden and Spitalfields markets) were stuffed to the rafters with it and boutiques were offering  designer pieces at wallett numbing prices. From H&M to Next, Zara to Topshop, there was  hardly a high street store that had not heard the news. Fur whether it is a coat with a funky collar, a trendy gillet, or a fur bag, is a hot trend.

If you want to make a  flamboyant fashion statement, you could try wearing a "shapka" or, as I prefer to call it, a "big furry Russian hat". The cosy headwear has been embraced by the likes of Madonna, Lily Allen and Angelina Jolie and I have to admit that it's one of my favourite trends for winter.

Just what Dr Zhivago ordered - it is also practical, in the cold weather, whether it is made out of real fur or the more popular and ethical fake version.Since it turns your head into a giant furball, it also makes you easier to spot in a crowd. Unless, as may increasingly be the case, the other members of that crowd are wearing big, furry Russian hats too.

One thing's for sure it will give your look an element of Red Square chic, whether you are taking a stroll down Grafton  Street or, quite simply, heading over to Tesco for the weekly food shop.

A cute fur hat that I bought in Camden market...only £10!!!!!!
